Tony Prabowo
Biography
Born in Malang 1956, Tony Prabowo is a composer and curator of music and dance at Salihara Art Community in Jakarta since 2008. During his career as curator, he has invited many important music and dace groups from all over the world such as Akiko Kitamura (Japan), Eiko and Koma (New York), Daniel Leveille (Canada), Benoit Lachambre (Canada), Lucy Guerin Inc. (Australia), ADT(Australia),Chunky Move (Australia), Ayelen Parolin (Belgium), She She Pop (Germany), Susanna Leinonen (Finland), Olivier Dubois (France), Argento Ensemble (New York), Ensemble On-line (Austria), Bozzini Quartet and Quasar Saxophone Quartet (Canada), Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt), Toac Accordeon Duo (Netherlands), Topology (Australia), Speak Percussion (Australia), Timetable Percussion (New York), Ju Percussion Group (Taiwan) and many others. As composer, he has written 4 operas and many commissioned music works in international festivals such as Focus ! Festival at Lincoln Centre, Alice Tully Hall, New York, Tanglewood Contemporary Music Festival, Tong-Yeong Contemporary Music Festival, Israel Contemporary Music Festival and many more.
Curatorial Statement
Salihara is a private and independent alternative community for cross-disciplinary art in Jakarta. Our vision is to accommodate freedom of ideas and expression, respect for diversity, to nurture and promote artistic intellectual property. The program give priorities to new and contemporary forms of art. Novelty to us is not only a signature of civil society support towards the dynamics of art, but also creative respond towards numerous Indonesia’s and world cultural heritage.
