Felix Preval
Felix Preval was appointed Artistic Director of Darwin Festival in September 2017 having programmed the 2017 Festival as Acting Artistic Director. He will oversee the development of the 2018-2020 Darwin Festivals programs. A dynamic producer, programmer and festival manager, Felix has worked for arts festivals across Australia and New Zealand, the UK and the USA. Felix joined Darwin Festival after four successful years as Festival Producer of Melbourne Fringe Festival. Along with festival management experience, Felix brings a wealth of knowledge from a decade of artistic practice as a director, actor and writer, and as former Creative Director of an award-winning independent theatre company in New Zealand.
Curatorial Statement:
Darwin Festival is the Northern Territory’s largest annual muli-arts Festival, taking place each August during the warm tropical Dry Season. Presenting upwards of 80 works across all genres of performance, as well as a large program of visual arts exhibitions and events, Darwin Festival capitalizes on it’s unique culture and climate activating the city with events indoors and out, as well as bringing communities together to celebrate the best of life in the top end.
Darwin Festival is a leading presenter of work by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. We also have a long history of presenting international work from South East Asia and East Asia, reflecting the geographical relationship to and long standing cultural connections with the region.
