Cadi McCarthy
Cadi McCarthy (Founder & Director Catapult dance) has been actively engaged in dance as a professional dancer, choreographer, educator and director.
In 2014, Cadi founded Catapult dance Choreographic hub in Newcastle. Since founding Catapult, the organisation has received support from Create NSW (2014 - 2019), Australia Council for the Arts (2015/2017), the City of Newcastle (2015-2019), Regional Arts Australia (2017) and Catapult is an Associate Organisation of Ausdance NSW. In 2017 Catapult’s youth initiative: The Flipside Project was the recipient of an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Dance. Cadi also lectures at the Newcastle University lecturing in creative and performing arts.In 2017 Cadi was the recipient of the NSW Regional Arts Fellowship ($50 000) and 2017 Australian Council for the Arts project funding to develop a new professional dance theatre work: That Place In Between in partnership with the Civic Theatre, Newcastle to be presented in the Civic Theatre subscription season in October 2018.
In 2014 the work Look the Other Way received an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth and Community Dance produced by Buzz Dance Theatre, WA directed by Cadi McCarthy in collaboration with associate artist Laura Boynes.
From 2009 to 2013 Cadi McCarthy was the Artistic Director of Buzz Dance Theatre, a national and state triennially funded professional dance company based in Perth, WA. With the company she created 10 full-length works.
As a recipient of a 2007 Churchill Fellowship, Cadi spent time working with dance companies in Denmark, UK, Germany, USA, and Canada. In the same year she was awarded a choreographic choreographic residency at Chez Bushwick in New York. In 2009 Cadi travelled to Taiwan as the Australian delegate of the World Dance Alliance, International Choreographic Project.
