Since the 1980s, Anita Mathieu has been in charge of several responsibilities in performing arts institutions. In 1983, she worked as the Press Attachée of the Théâtre de la Bastille (Paris). From 1984 to 1989, at the creation of the Théâtre Contemporain de la Danse (Contemporain Theater of Dance), she was the Director of Communications and Programming Adviser. From 1989 to 1996, she integrated La Ferme du Buisson (Marne-la-Vallée) as the General Manager and Dance Programmer. Between 1996 and 1998, she was in charge of different missions as artistic adviser and development. Since 1999, she has directed the Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis.

From 2000 onwards, the festival has presented more than 290 companies; around 220 foreign companies and 70 French companies. In these roles, she has developed many partnerships with national and international performing arts institutions. Those functions have driven her to achieve a lot of partnerships with national and international performing arts institutions (participation in conferences, member of juries and partner in European projects).

Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis is an annual festival of contemporary dance. In 2019, it takes place from May 17th to June 22nd 2019 in 13 theatres and venues of several cities in the territory of Seine-Saint-Denis, programming 23 choreographers from several countries, 26 shows and a total of 46 performances given. The purpose is to give the audience and the many programmers who attend the shows the opportunity to discover the diversity of works and to enhance the singularity of specific forms in performing arts.
A third of the works shown in the festival are new creations: encouraging creation implies experimentation, risk and curiosity. The desire is to encourage the mobility of artists, whose performed expression is nourished by the confrontations, exchanges, and reflection on the hustles and bustles of the contemporary world.
Dates attending Dance Massive: 11 - 22 March
Anita Mathieu’s visit is supported by the Australian Embassy and The Australia Council for the Arts.
